Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic champion in javelin throw, achieved his second consecutive victory of the season at the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League on Saturday, competing against a formidable field, according to media reports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Sports minister Anurag Thakur and Olympic gold medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra on Saturday congratulated star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra for his second straight win of the season in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League.

During his fifth attempt, Chopra unleashed a remarkable throw of 87.66m, further solidifying his lead over his competitors.

Julian Weber of Germany, in his final attempt, managed a throw of 87.03m, falling short of surpassing Chopra’s outstanding performance, as reported by Mid-Day.

Chopra faced a challenging start to his campaign in Lausanne when his first attempt resulted in a foul throw.

However, he rebounded in the second attempt with a legal throw of 83.52m, securing the third position behind Julian Weber (86.20m) and Jakub Vadlejch (84.71m).

The 25-year-old Indian sensation commenced the Diamond League season on a high note, claiming the top spot on the podium in Doha on May 5 with a remarkable throw of 88.67m—his personal best.

Unfortunately, he encountered a muscle strain while training later that month, which posed a setback.

“Congratulations to @Neeraj_chopra1 for shining at the Lausanne Diamond League. Thanks to his extraordinary performances, he has finished at the top of the table. His talent, dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence is commendable,” said PM Modi in a tweet. (Edited).
