In a proud moment for Tripura, local artists have been recognized on a national stage, earning both fellowships and spots in the prestigious 64th National Exhibition of Art by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
CCRT Fellowships: The Center for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) has once again acknowledged the talent of Tripura's artists by awarding fellowships to four individuals. Sankar Rudra Pal and Rupa Nandi Ghosh have been selected for senior fellowships, while Sarmistha Singha and Dipika Das have secured junior fellowships. These artists will receive monthly stipends of Rs 20,000 for seniors and Rs 10,000 for juniors over the next two years, providing them the means to further their artistic pursuits.
Historic Representation at Lalit Kala Akademi: This year's National Exhibition has seen an unprecedented number of artists from Tripura being selected, marking the highest representation from the North-Eastern states since the Akademi's inception. Out of more than 7,000 entries nationwide, 294 artworks were chosen for this esteemed exhibition, and eight artists from Tripura have made the cut: The list of 8 artists is as:
Among these, Nitai Das and Santa Deb are acclaimed for their sculptural works, while the others have distinguished themselves in painting. Notably, Tapati Bhowmik Majumdar and Jayashree Ray were recipients of national fellowships from CCRT last year, and Santa Deb secured a junior fellowship. Manish Bhattacharya, Promitparna Pal, and Jaydeep Bhattacharyya contribute to art education as faculties at Tripura's College of Art and Craft. Nitai Das is employed with Doordarshan, and Pushpal Deb serves in the Information and Culture Department.
Awards and Recognition: From the 294 artists selected to participate in the exhibition, twenty will be awarded by the President of India, receiving Rs 2 lakh each and a certificate. The art community in Tripura is filled with hope that one of their own will be among the recipients, adding to the four artists from the state who have previously been honored in the 64-year history of these awards. These include Bipul Kanti Saha, Soumya Chakraborty, Mrinmoy Deb Barman, and most recently in 2023, Soumen Debnath.
This recognition not only celebrates individual artists but also underscores the vibrant artistic culture of Tripura, which has been on an upward trajectory since the establishment of Lalit Kala Akademi in the state in 2018. This achievement is a testament to the growing influence and recognition of Tripura's visual arts scene on the national canvas.
