All ration cards in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area will be e-KYC verified by December next year.
Moreover, an Aadhaar-linked public distribution system will be implemented. Subsequently, this system will be rolled out across the entire state by 2025.
Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sushanta Chowdhury made this announcement at a departmental review meeting on Thursday.
Presiding over today's review meeting, the Food Minister said that the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will assist in this program. In the review meeting, the Food Minister directed the officials of the Food Department to expedite their work towards this goal.
Earlier speaking to the media, the Minister said, committees will be formed in all markets across the State in which alongwith market representative and concerned officials, ration shop dealers would be a part. The objective of the committee would be to synchronise the functioning of markets.
The Food Minister said the participants of today's review meeting that according to the new rules, keeping in mind the protection of consumers' interests, ration dealers must collect ration supplies between the 5th and 7th of every month as per government directives so that beneficiaries can get ration supplies on time.
He directed the food inspectors to keep an eye on this matter. A district-wise calendar with a price chart will soon be prepared for the state's markets.
The Food Minister informed the review meeting that there are 2067 fair price shops in the state and 9,80,297 beneficiary families.
He said that it is the duty and responsibility of every employee of the Food Department to ensure that each family gets the commodities on time.
He advised them to perform their duties and responsibilities properly and said that the food inspectors should regularly inspect the ration shops. Awareness meetings on "Jago Grahak Jago" will also be held.
Sushanta Chowdhury advised the employees involved in the procurement of paddy at support prices to talk to the agriculture block officers and supervisors, panchayat samiti chairmen, and BDOs of each district to determine the time and place for procurement of paddy at support prices.
Special Secretary of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Welfare, Ravel Hemendra Kumar, and the department's Superintendent Sumit Lodh, along with other officials, were present at the meeting.
The review meeting discussed issues such as procurement of paddy at support prices from farmers in the state, proper supply of petrol and diesel, and timely delivery of ration supplies to the public.
