However, if Baroda manages to hold out, Tripura will have to settle for 3 points, missing an opportunity to assert their growing dominance in the tournament.
The match has been a showcase of resilience and grit for Tripura, who declared their first innings at a commanding 482 for 7, in response to Baroda’s 235. With a lead of 247 runs, Tripura’s bowlers face a critical task as Baroda ended the third day at 37 without loss, still trailing by 210 runs.
Batting Brilliance Puts Tripura in the Driver’s Seat
Tripura’s batting lineup displayed impressive form, with several players contributing key innings against Baroda’s formidable bowling attack. After resuming their innings on 190 for 1, Tripura’s top-order batsmen, led by Jiwanjot Singh and Tejashwi Jaiswal, dominated the MBB Stadium pitch on Friday, putting the visiting Baroda team under considerable pressure.
Singh, who had scored a century in the previous match against Mumbai, came tantalizingly close to another three-figure score. He continued his rich vein of form, attacking Baroda’s bowlers with ease, and scored a confident 94 off 181 balls, including eight well-timed boundaries. His innings set the tone for Tripura, steering the team to a strong position before he was dismissed at team’s score of 258 runs.
Tejashwi Jaswal also contributed significantly, crafting a patient 82 off 159 deliveries, embellished with twelve boundaries and an over-boundary. His partnership of 110 runs for the second wicket with Singh further strengthened Tripura’s hold on the game.
Middle Order Fires as Captain Leads Charge
Following the top-order exploits, Shreedam Pal partnered with captain Mandip Singh in a counter-attacking fourth-wicket stand that added 116 runs off just 150 balls. Shreedam’s aggressive 73 off 116 balls, featuring five boundaries, injected momentum into the innings, while Mandip Singh’s composed 74 not out off 95 deliveries anchored Tripura’s efforts. Baroda skipper Krunal Pandya used as many as nine bowlers including himself to dismantle rock-solid performance of the Tripyra batters. Out of the nine bowlers used, six bowlers claimed one wicket each while three others, including Pandya went wicket less. Abhijit Sarkar of Tripura was run himself out.
After the fall of the 7th wicket, Tripura skipper Mandeep Singh declared the Tripura’s innings securing a lead of 247 runs.
Final Day’s Challenge: Tripura’s Bowlers Look to Seal Victory
With 247 runs to defend and two full innings days in hand, Tripura’s bowling attack now holds the key to clinching victory. Baroda, however, showed glimpses of stability as their openers, JK Singh (12 off 45 balls) and Shivalik Sharma (25 off 51 balls), navigated the initial 16 overs, reaching 37 without loss by stumps on Day 3.
Among the Tripura bowlers, Wrecker in Chief of Baroda’s first innings, Abhijit Sarkar bowled only one over today out of the total 16 overs bowled in Baroda’s second innings today. ManiShakar Murasing bowled six over giving away only 6 runs.
As the final day approaches, all eyes will be on Tripura’s bowlers to break through Baroda’s batting lineup.
