Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha lashes out at defectors

Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha, in an oblique reference slammed the former BJP MLAs – Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha while addressing a poll rally on Saturday.

Dr-Manik-Saha-Tripura-by-poll-CongressWithout naming them, Dr. Saha said that they were involved clandestine activities undermining the interests of the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“They were in BJP but they had taken all possible covert measures to ensure victory of Opponent party in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. They had extended all necessary support to the TMC candidate. They were BJP MLAs and that’s why we were helpless; we could not reveal it during that time,” he said while addressing an election rally at Netaji Chowmuhani.

Dr Saha is contesting in Assembly by-polls from 8- Town Bordowali seat in Agartala and he is locked in a multi-corner contest.

Asish Saha is one of contestants, who won the 2018 Assembly from the Town Bordowali seat on BJP ticket, is one of contestants. Asish Saha resigned from the party and joined Congress necessitating by-polls in the constituency.

Like Asish Saha, another former BJP MLA Roy Barman also resigned and joined. Sudip Roy Barman is contesting from 6-Agartala Assembly seat.

Taking a swipe at yet another former BJP MLA Ashis Das, Dr. Saha said, “Being a surgeon, I saw live surgeries but never saw live mundon (tonsuring).” It was Dr. Saha’s comment on Das’ move of shaving hair at Kalighat before his jump to the TMC. Meanwhile, Das also quit the Trinamool recently.

Speaking in the poll campaign, Dr. Saha, also mentioned that TMC had imported the culture of violence from West Bengal to Tripura before the last Urban Local Body (ULB) polls. They run business in the name of politics, he added.

BJP state vice-president Rajib Bhattacharjee and other party leaders were present in the street corner.
