Tripura CM thanks Union Govt as Unakoti rock-cut reliefs added to UNESCO tentative list of Heritage Sites

Three more sites including Unakoti rock carving sculpture have been added to tentative list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha thanked the Central Government and the Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy.

India adds 3 more sites to @UNESCO’s Tentative List: 01 Vadnagar- A multi-layered Historic town, Gujarat 02 Sun Temple, Modhera and its adjoining monuments 03 Rock-cut Sculptures and Reliefs of the Unakoti, Unakoti Range, Unakoti District”.

 

The ASI re-tweeted Reddy’s one tweet that read : Located in north-eastern part of Tripura, Unakoti is known as an ancient holy place associated with Shaiva worship. The site is massive gallery set amongst the forest displaying number of towering low relief images in unique style, making it a masterpiece of human creative genius”.

Later Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha thanked the Central government and the Tourism Minister for the inclusion of Unakoti in the tentative list of UNESCO world heritage sites.

 

Dr Saha tweeted, “Happy to share that Rock-cut Sculptures and Reliefs of the Unakoti in Tripura made it to the tentative list of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Unakoti, known as an ancient holy place associated with Shiva worship, is famous for its colossal rock cut panels depicting Hindu deities”.

 

The Chief Minister further wrote, “On behalf of the people of Tripura, I wholeheartedly thank the Central Government and Hon’ble Union Minister for Tourism @kishanreddybjp ji for approaching UNESCO to declare Unakoti as a World Heritage Site.”

 

Recently, Indian Express reported, “ … Centre has approached UNESCO to declare it a World Heritage Site and has recently granted Rs 12 crore to the state for developing the place as a major tourist destination…. “
