Gadkari reviews NHs of NE: Tripura to get Rs 2800 Crore for economic, road connectivity development

In a major boost to Tripura’s economic and road connectivity system, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will sanction projects worth over Rs 2800 crore for the state.

The development came after Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari held a review meeting in Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday. Among others, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha was also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, discussions were held on eight projects that will be sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, for Tripura.

The projects include Rs 800 crore for the Agartala Eastern Bypass, a four-lane road stretching 11 km, Rs 1500 crore for widening the Amtali to Tripura Sundari Temple road, a 50 km stretch into a four-lane road, Rs 400 crore for converting the Ranibazar to ISBT Chandrapur road into a four-lane 10 km stretch, and Rs 100 crore for the additional sanction under the Central Road Fund.

Apart from these, Dr. Saha also held discussions on a new National Highway from Kamalpur to Ambassa, Gandacherra, Amarpur to Sabroom to enhance international trade and tourism, a logistics park on the Eastern Bypass near Agartala over a 100-acre land, and the sanctioning of funds for restoring National Highways damaged by floods.

Out of four proposals, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Ropeway from Maharani to Chabimura is expected to be sanctioned soon.

Notably, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari reviewed National Highways of North Eastern States namely Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland in Delhi today. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Sh. Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Sh. Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Manipur Sh. N Biren Singh and Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha were also present in the meeting. Union Ministers of State for Road Transport and Highways Sh. Ajay Tamta and Sh. Harsh Malhotra were also present along with senior officers of the ministry.

Taking to social media, the Union Minister wrote, “Reviewed the progress of 16 ongoing National Highway projects spanning 324 km in Tripura with Union MoS Shri @AjayTamtaBJPJi, Shri @hdmalhotraJi, Tripura CM Shri @DrManikSaha2Ji, and senior officials in Delhi today. In the meeting, we emphasized fast-tracking the development of highway infrastructure in Tripura, ensuring it is more sustainable and cost-efficient. These efforts will significantly improve connectivity, boost local economies, and further integrate the North-east into the national growth framework”.
