President Murmu presents Best District in NE National Water Award to Dhalai of Tripura
President Droupadi Murmu presented the fifth National Water Awards in New Delhi on Tuesday and Dhalai District of Tripura bagged the 2nd prize as the Best District in the North East Zone.
Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, IAS, received the award.

For the unversed, Dhalai District has got the award for creation of community recharge structures, micro irrigation systems, excavation of ponds, construction of check dams, construction of water tanks for rainwater harvesting, geo-tagging and mapping of waterbodies in the District.

According to a PIB Press Release, the President said that water is a basic necessity and a fundamental human right for every individual. A clean and prosperous society cannot be built without ensuring access to clean water.
She said, the unavailability of water and poor sanitation have a greater impact on the health, food security and livelihood of the underprivileged.
Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha hailed the achievement. Sharing the video clip of the award giving ceremony, Dr Saha wrote in a social media post, "It's a proud moment for all of us that Tripura's Dhalai district bagged #NationalWaterAward as the Best District in the North East region.
The award has been given for constructing recharge structures, geo-tagging water bodies, and planting over 41 lakh bamboo trees.
I wholeheartedly congratulate the people of Dhalai district, administration & all concerned for this achievement.".
The fifth National Water Awards were presented in nine categories - Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best School or College, Best Industry, Best Water User Association, Best Institution (other than school or college), and Best Civil Society.
